William Haning, III

William Haning, III, is an associate professor of psychiatry and associate dean in the at Â鶹´«Ã½Manoa. He has rapidly risen up the ranks both clinically and academically. Haning is certified in three disciplines—general psychiatry, addiction psychiatry and addiction medicine. He is active in the community and participates in lectures, television interviews and panel discussions.
In addition to his academic career, Haning is a captain in the Naval Reserves and served in the Middle East. A colleague observed, "I feel envious of his teaching style because of his command of his subject, his effectiveness in communicating the material he would like the audience to take with them, his creative use of humor and his dedication to the teaching endeavor."
The Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching is awarded by the Board of Regents as tribute to faculty members who exhibit an extraordinary level of subject mastery and scholarship, teaching effectiveness and creativity and personal values that benefit students.
