Larry H. Fujinaka is a professor of psychology at . He taught at Leeward for nearly 30 years and strives to help students learn and suCommunity Collegeeed. Fujinaka’s teaching strategies are flexible and innovative. For introductory courses, he not only covers the discipline itself, but important college survival, learning and life skills. By helping students develop their "teacher within themselves," Fujinaka creates effective college students.
A student, a Marine Corps sergeant, says, "I learned more about me and my life than in combat. I feel you are not a good teacher but a great one. You set a standard and do not lower it because your class fails to reach it. You demand they reach it; you force us to push past our comfort zones and achieve greatness."
The Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching is awarded by the Board of Regents as tribute to faculty members who exhibit an extraordinary level of subject mastery and scholarship, teaching effectiveness and creativity and personal values that benefit students.
