Peggy Hong
Manoa
Peggy Hong, director of human resources at Manoa, has been with the University of Hawaii for 28 years.
Beginning as a personnel officer in the system Office of Human Resources, she served as the director of human resources for the community colleges and Â鶹´«Ã½System. Hong implemented the Manoa human resources office and has been its director since 2005.
Hong is a respected leader at the university and continues to be called upon to share her knowledge, insight and passion. Many of the programs she developed and the policies and procedures she established continue to be utilized systemwide.
Her colleagues note that Hong is always willing to invest her personal time and energy to mentor those who will become the new generation of leaders. In nominating her for the award, they concur that “the quality of her service is unquestionable, and she has consistently been a proven innovative leader year after year. Her selfless dedication and passion for the university and its people is admirable and a model for others.”
Â鶹´«Ã½Manoa Chancellor Virginia Hinshaw says that Hong is “one of UH’s gems. We always know we can depend on her—both in generating solutions to even the most complex situations and readily stepping forward to help at any time. Her integrity, spirit and dedication are true assets for our university.”
