Brian Yamamoto is an associate professor of biological science at . Yamamoto has already garnered numerous awards and accomplishments, including the university’s Board of Regents Excellence in Teaching Award in 1988.
As a Kenan Fellow in 2001�02, Yamamoto worked with local middle school and high school teachers to help them incorporate tropical botany into their science curriculum. He is presently fulfilling a Title III grant to develop curriculum for infusion of Hawaiian values into science courses in order to improve the success of Native Hawaiians in the field of science.
His students appreciate Yamamoto for his effective course design and teaching methods. Their laudatory comments, which are featured in the college’s catalog, touch on Yamamoto’s unquestionable love for teaching. His students are impressed by his immense knowledge of science and botany, and how this knowledge is effectively conveyed through his lectures "in an interesting and fundamental way that benefits all," according to one of his nominating letters.
The Frances Davis Award for Undergraduate Teaching recognizes dedication and demonstrated excellence as teachers of undergraduate students. It was established as a memorial to the late Frances Davis, who taught mathematics at Leeward Community College and 麻豆传媒Manoa for 19 years.
