A lecture by visiting professor Sherene Seikaly, followed by a reception with poetry and music by Poet Laureate Brandy Nālani McDougall, Kauwila Mahi, and Josie Brody among others. Prof. Sherene Seikaly teaches History and directs the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at UC Santa Barbara. Her book Men of Capital: Scarcity and Economy in Mandate Palestine (Stanford University Press, 2016) explores economy, territory, the home, and the body. Her book in progress, "From Baltimore to Beirut: On the Question of Palestine" tells a global history of capital, slavery, and dispossession. She coedits the Stanford Studies in Middle Eastern and Islamic Societies and Cultures Series, the Journal of Palestine Studies, and Jadaliyya.
