Ninunong Gamot: Philippine Plant Medicine Workshop & Pag+mul+mula+an Closing Ceremony with Manang Angela Angel
Thursday, April 9, 2020
2 – 4pm
Join herbalist, artist and traditional medicine keeper, Angela Angel for a workshop focusing on deepening our work with ancestral medicine. We will work with herbs that are locally available to us including a host of bitters (herbs for the digestive system to help cleanse the liver, support the gut and create easeful flow in the body) and nervines (herbs for the nervous system to help with stress and emotional support)– including ampalaya/paria (bittermelon), malunggay (moringa), mangosteen, saluyot (jute) and ylang-ylang.
We will use traditional Filipino folk methods and western techniques to work with each plant. Class time will include Herbalism 101, hands-on experience on learning how to make different herbal medicines as well as ritual-based traditional healing techniques. Each participant will go home with their own herbal medicine goodies made in class, a traditional, medicinal lunch we will make and practical herbal and traditional knowledge that will be useful for lifetimes on.
Pag+mul+mula+an, or “Place of Plants”, is a learning environment, a metaphorical garden space for the reclamation of ancestral knowledge and the generation of new ways of knowing. Join us in the Art Gallery from March 8-April 9, 2020 for various events exploring plants and language. With support from SEED Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access and Success (IDEAS) Grant.
