Paul Mitri is an associate professor and chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance at Â鶹´«Ã½Manoa.
Mitri believes in the transformative power of theatre and the craft of acting, teaching students and preparing them for continual professional work and a life in the arts.
Mitri’s expertise extends from voice and movement to advanced acting techniques. A visionary who works tirelessly to create opportunities for students, Mitri creates courses specifically for students in the department and brings theatre to the community. His recent Manoa Valley Theatre production employed students, an alumna and a faculty member, and garnered seven Pookela Awards for acting and directing.
A colleague noted that Mitri “seeks to enable students to do something brave every day, to bare their souls and feelings in front of complete strangers, and then put themselves back together and continue living happy lives.”
The Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching is awarded by the as tribute to faculty members who exhibit an extraordinary level of subject mastery and scholarship, teaching effectiveness and creativity and personal values that benefit students. The board also awards the Regents’ Medal for and links to archives.
