Professor of Mathematics Raina Ivanova has a reputation for being a challenging and inspiring teacher who cares deeply about the success of every student. One student commented that Ivanova loves what she does and this “shows in her enthusiasm and dedication.”

Her devotion to teaching is demonstrated in constant reflection on teaching techniques and efforts to develop innovative and creative pedagogical methods. Ivanova has initiated several programs to inspire her students to exceed self-imposed limits, prepare for successful careers in science and other fields and become lifelong learners.

She aims to excite natural curiosity and “child-like eagerness to learn” in each person. One colleague wrote, Ivanova is “the best motivational speaker for mathematics I have ever encountered and is simply a wonderful person to be around.”

The Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching is awarded by the as tribute to faculty members who exhibit an extraordinary level of subject mastery and scholarship, teaching effectiveness and creativity and personal values that benefit students. The board also awards the Regents’ Medal for | 2005 | 2004 | 2003-1965
