Hiroko DeLeon is an assistant professor of East Asian languages at Â鶹´«Ã½Maui College.

DeLeon created and is actively involved with the Japanese Club, which ties its activities back to the goal of mastering the Japanese language and culture. She implemented a language exchange program between Â鶹´«Ã½Maui College and Toyama University and Kure National College of Technology using laptops and Skype allowing her students to learn directly about Japan from their peers.

For the past 32 years, DeLeon has accomplished unparalleled outcomes for language instruction and exposure for Â鶹´«Ã½Maui College.

The Frances Davis Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching recognizes dedication and demonstrated excellence as teachers of undergraduate students. It was established as a memorial to the late Frances Davis, who taught mathematics at Leeward Community College and Â鶹´«Ã½Manoa for 19 years.
