Beyond the Degree: How to Communicate Your Skills and Experience to Employers
November 14, 12:00pm - 12:45pmMānoa Campus, Zoom
*Free for Â鶹´«Ã½²ÑÄå²Ô´Ç²¹ graduate students through Beyond Graduate School as institutional members. Sometimes master’s students start their job search by focusing on their academic expertise, but this limits the career opportunities available to them. Non-academic employers are typically less concerned about your degree in one specific subject matter, and more interested in the set of skills you can bring to their workplace. So how can master’s students effectively communicate their skills and training to non-academic employers? In this workshop, you will reflect on the work you’ve done in academia, identify transferable skills, and learn how communicate your value in job documents and interviews. This virtual workshop is designed for master’s students from all academic disciplines who are wondering: -What skills are most in-demand outside of higher ed? -What skills have I developed while working as a master’s student? -How do I translate my academic work into language that non-academic employers understand? -How can I find job openings that are looking for my specific skills?
