For Love of the “Jumping Flea†Celebrating the History of the ‘Ukulele

Featuring 'Ukulele virtuosos: Doug Tolentino, David Ka'io, and artists from Kamaka, Kanile' a, and KoAloha. Please join us for this historic lecture-performance celebrating the ‘ukulele, as the Hawaiʻi State Archives kicks off National October Archives Month focused on Hawaiʻi's beloved instrument. In partnership with the Ethnomusicology Program and ‘Ukulele Friend, the Hawaiian Music Archives is proud to celebrate the official ‘auana instrument of the State of Hawai’i. This amazing event features historical ‘ukulele played by some of Hawai’i’s finest musical talent. Featuring the growing collection of materials donated to the Hawaiian Music Archives @ Hawaiʻi State Archives and select ‘ukulele from the world-renowned Honoka’upu Collection, examples of vintage ’ukulele, recordings, sheet music, and method books will contextualize the lecture and performances. This unique offering will be live-streamed on the Hawaiʻi State Archives Facebook page.
