Working with Climate Change and Sustainability in the Asia-Pacific

April 17, 3:00pm - 4:00pm
Mānoa Campus, Moore Hall 258 and Online (Zoom)

Are you interested in helping to fight climate change and promote sustainability? Want to learn more about how companies are trying to reduce carbon emissions and implement better energy policy in the Asia-Pacific region? Join us on Wednesday, April 17 at 3:00–4:00 pm HST for a conversation with Ken Haig (Head, Energy & Environmental Policy, Asia-Pacific & Japan, Amazon Web Services) to hear about how he is helping to chart AWS’s path to 100% renewable energy by 2025 and net carbon neutrality by 2040 and how you can prepare for careers in this exciting field. The discussion will be moderated by Kristi Govella (Director, Center for Indo-Pacific Affairs, University of Hawai‘i at ²ÑÄå²Ô´Ç²¹).

This event will be held in person (258 Moore Hall) and online (Zoom).

Ken Haig was born and raised in Hawai‘i. He is currently based in the Tokyo office of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and travels extensively throughout the Asia-Pacific region addressing energy and environmental policy in multiple countries. Before he joined AWS, Ken helped to launch the Asia-Pacific business for Opower, a startup that pioneered the blending of behavioral science and data science to promote large-scale energy management programs. Prior to that, he was a US-based academic teaching and researching comparative politics and public policy at UC Berkeley, Harvard University, and Bard College. Ken has a B.A. in History from Harvard University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley.

This event is part of the Careers in Asia-Pacific Affairs Speaker Series, which is cosponsored by the University of Hawai‘i at ²ÑÄå²Ô´Ç²¹ Center for Indo-Pacific Affairs, Center for Southeast Asian Studies, East Asia National Resource Center, Center for Pacific Island Studies, and Department of Asian Studies.
