SEED IDEAS Dance in Dialogue: Guest Lecturer Rohan Bhargava

Rovaco Dance Company director Rohan Bhargava joins the students of Dance History 2 for a guest lecture discussing his artistic work and career, and his perspectives on Contemporary South Asian Dance. About the Artist: Rohan Bhargava, born and raised in New Delhi, India, began his formal dance training at The Danceworx Academy of Performing Arts. He trained in ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary, and hip hop, and went on to serve as a performer, instructor, and choreographer in The Danceworx Company. In 2012, Rohan relocated to New York to pursue his B.F.A in Dance from Tisch School of the Arts, NYU. He currently works for Kizuna Dance, Periapsis Music and Dance, Mare Nostrum Elements, and Notes in Motion Outreach Dance Theater. Through his choreographic work as Artistic Director of Rovaco Dance, Rohan has won "Outstanding Choreography" at Tamasha NYC 2016 and received commissions from The Dance Gallery Festival, Sam Houston State University, Mare Nostrum Elements, Dancewave, Making Moves Dance Festival, and Rhythmically Speaking Dance. In 2017, Rohan collaborated with seven composers from Mannes School of Music as part of the Alsop Entrepreneurship Award. In 2019, he completed a two-year residency through the CUNY Dance Initiative at LaGuardia Performing Arts Center, and he was awarded the 2020 Jadin Wong Fellowship in Dance, through Asian American Arts Alliance. Recently, Rohan was named one of Dance Magazine's "25 to Watch 2021."
