The campus community is invited to honor and celebrate Alice Augusta Ball, the university’s first Black graduate and a pioneering scientist who discovered an effective treatment for Hansen’s disease (leprosy) using oil from the Chaulmoogra tree.
Speakers will include 鶹ýand community members who will pay tribute to Alice Ball.
February 28 was proclaimed as “Alice Augusta Ball Day” in Hawaiʻi by Gov. David Ige in 2022 (Read the 鶹ýNews story)
